Melaleuca alternifolia

Tea tree oil comes from a tree that is native to Australia. It is widely used due to its array of health benefits. Melaleuca, its botanical name, is highly versatile and offers many uses such as cleansing and soothing the area it is diffused in or applied directly to. 

Practical Benefits and Uses

• Acne- Combine 1 tsp jojoba oil and 2 drops tea tree oil in the palm of your hand. Gently massage over troubled areas, avoiding eyes. Do a patch test to ensure there is no sensitivity.
• Antibacterial- In a spray bottle, add 15 drops of tea tree to 8 oz distilled water, and 8 oz vinegar. Shake and spray on surfaces. Leave for 15 minutes before wiping clean. 
• Dandruff- Add 10 drops of tea tree per 8 oz of shampoo. Use every few days.
• Infections- For skin infections such as athletes foot, ringworm, or nail fungus, add 2 drops of tea tree oil to 1 tsp coconut oil. 
• Lice- Add 10 drops of tea tree per 8 oz of shampoo. Use every few days as a prevention. Do not get into eyes.
• Respiratory- Add 10 drops to a cold-air humidifier and allow to run to promote respiratory relief and to clean the air.

Can Be Used for

• Aromatherapy diffuser- Add 10 drops to a diffuser. Add complimentary oils if desired.
• In a bath- 5 drops essential oil, 1 Tbsp carrier oil, 4 oz epsom salts. Combine first, then add to running water.
• In massage oil blend- Always test on an insensitive area for skin sensitivity. Add essential oil to preferred carrier oil. Tea Tree is best diluted 15% with a carrier oil.

• If applying an essential oil to your skin, always perform a small patch test to an insensitive part of the body after you have properly diluted it with a preferred carrier oil.

• Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes.
• Do not take internally. 
• If pregnant or nursing consult a physician before use
• Keep out of reach of children.
• Direct contact with tea tree oil is dangerous to cats.
• Don't let diffuser run continuously. Always take breaks after 30-60 minutes of running time.​
