LAVENDER

Lavandula  angustifolia
Lavender has a long history of aromatherapeutic use. From a simple perfume to a relaxing sleep aid, lavender has survived the test of time for its effectiveness against many ailments.

Practical Benefits and Uses
  • Anxiety- Add 10 drops to a diffuser or inhale directly from the bottle for relief.
  • Cough- Combine 5 drops of lavender oil with 1 Tbsp carrier oil and 4 oz Epsom salts. Add the mixture to warm running water. Relax in this soothing bath for cough relief.
  • Insomnia- Add 1-2 drops to each side of your pillow for a better nights sleep.
  • Minor burns- Combine 1/2 Tbsp coconut oil or aloe vera gel with 6 drops lavender oil. Apply over affected area. 
  • Insect sting- Apply one drop to affected area every 15-30 minutes for the first hour.
  • Nausea- Add 5 drops to 1 Tbsp of carrier oil. Massage into area around navel and gently into the sides of the neck. 
  • Skin blemishes- Add directly to affected area or combine 5 drops with jojoba oil to apply to a larger area of the face or skin.

Can Be Used for
  • Aromatherapy diffuser- Add 10 drops to a diffuser. Add complimentary oils if desired.
  • In a bath- 5 drops essential oil, 1 Tbsp carrier oil, 4 oz epsom salts. Combine first, then add to running water.
  • In massage oil blend- Always test on an insensitive area for skin sensitivity. Add essential oil to preferred carrier oil.

Cautions
  • If applying an essential oil to your skin, always perform a small patch test to an insensitive part of the body after you have properly diluted it with a preferred carrier oil. 
  • Do not apply topically to children under 6 months of age.
  • Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes.
  • Do not take internally. 
  • Generally safe, but if pregnant or nursing you may consider consulting a physician before use.
  • Keep out of reach of children.
  • Direct contact with lavender oil is dangerous to cats.
  • Don't let diffuser run continuously. Always take breaks after 30-60 minutes of running time.​
